'Would You Turn The Corner?!' Acting Animation Blocking WIP

I've animated a fair amount this summer. Most of it being freelance for a new 2D Platform Game (that's coming to the Android Store, this year! Whoohoo!) But a couple of days ago I decided to start a longer acting piece to help beef up my demo reel for this National Portfolio Day coming up in a few months. I need lots of help on this piece so comments are appreciated. Leave a comment here or on my 11 Second Club thread here: http://www.11secondclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=26313

Animation Reel July 2014

I've spent the majority of July at MIAD Pre-College taking Advanced Figure Drawing and have been loving the facilities, teachers, and other students there. However, I'll post about my MIAD experience on a different day (its been a great one)-I've been doing mostly figure drawing but here's my updated demo reel with some new shots and a new line up for some meetings coming up.

National Portfolio Day WEEKEND 2013!

Hello all!

This past weekend I attended National Portfolio in Milwaukee at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and in Chicago at School of Art Institute of Chicago. These past two days have been a blast! I showed my portfolio and demo reel to 8 schools in Milwaukee on October 19th and 7 schools in Chicago on October 20th. 15 critiques in 2 days!

Milwaukee- October 19
Ringling College of Art and Design
Rhode Island School of Design
Maine College of Art
Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design
School of Art Institute of Chicago
Otis College
Art Center College of Design
Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Chicago- October 20
CalArts
Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design
Bowling Green State University
CalArts (again)
University of Kansas
Columbus College of Art and Design
Ringling College of Art and Design (again)

I received TONS of great feedback that will totally change how I draw, with what medium, and the subject. I took plenty of notes and plan on typing them up and posting them at my work space.

Lots of schools recommended to sign up for a life drawing class and to attend a summer pre college program. I found a few weekly figure drawing classes not too far from my house and plan on attending one regularly. I also will be looking into a some pre college programs. Right now I'm doing more research on the summer program at MIAD and will be looking at SAIC to see what they offer.

Here's what I showed to the admissions representatives from each school.

I put my sketches in a nifty portfolio case:

Here is a video of me flipping through the portfolio case:

And here is my demo reel that I showed:

I still have a very long way to go but I'm real excited.

This entire experience was super inspiring and fun. This week is the end of the quarter so I have Thursday and Friday off. I will be drawing  A LOT in this next week working with the knowledge of the new critiques I received.

New Animations: Diving and Fox Ball Jump

Hello!

Here's two new animations I've been working on throughout the week:

NOTES- Things to Add/Change
- Diving Animation
--- Still have to clean up and get rid of some of the in betweens at the peak of the arc of the jump, its a bit too smooth/slow. Will add some distorted frames as well is some places. May add a background and the character showing off a bit before he jumps. Hopefully, I'll also animate some type of splash effect after he jumps.

-Fox Ball Jump
--- Need to add and animate tail.

Pogo Jump Animation Progression

In a tweet by Chris Chua, animator at Pixar and CalArts grad (who is one of the animators I look up to) gave some great advice:

So decided to do exactly this.

Planning:

Rough Animation:

Cleaned Up

Through this process I learned the importance of planning, I've begun to use reference more and more but before usually never planned an animation out on paper before animating. This experience has 'convinced' me  to always plan out the poses and timing before actually animating and I plan on doing this always.
